The event
2010 Edition:
This year the start is at Petrosani.
Directions to Cabana Rusu near Petrosani coming from Arad.
From Arad drive to Deva, continue straight towards Sibiu /Bucuresti. after 7 km you will enter Simeria, one KM after Simeria turn right to Hateg, after aprox 35 km you will arrive in Hateg, turn left in Hateg towards Petrosani.
After aprox. 45 km you will arrive in Petrosani. 1,5 km after arriving in Petrosani turn left at (GPS: 45 25 17 23 22 06 ) towards Voineassa/Obirsa Lotrului.
Follow that road for aprox. 4,5 km. Now do not turn left to Voineassa!! Stay straight ahead for another 6 km and you will arrive at cabana hotel RUSU (GPS: 45 23 30 23 26 16).

1. Regulations of the event
There are 2 classes:
- Professional class - Teams of 2 riders on 2 snowmobiles or 3 riders on 3 Snowmobiles.
- Amateur class - Teams of minimum 2 riders on 2 snowmobiles and maximum 6 riders on 3 snowmobiles.
The number of participants is limited to 80.
The race consists of one time trials on the 4’th of March and two long day stages across the Carpathian Mountains on the 5’th and 6’th of March.
Start place: will be announced
Partially fast and technically challenging tracks will be the racing grounds of this challenge, some traversing and steep up and down hills in the Pro class.

- The winning team is the one which finishes the race after completing the time trials and the 2 daily stages from start to finish in the lowest overall time.
- The time of the slowest competitor per team counts for the team's valuation.
The route is partially fitted with shields, and a pre-runner will open the track in case of snowfall over night, but the main navigation will be based on given GPS track points.
- The race track will be transferred to the GPS by the organizing team.
- Printed maps will be provided by the organizer.

- The race track is planned to be about 100-180 km for amateurs and 160-250 km for professionals, if good riding conditions.

The total number of participants is limited to 80 riders, acceptence into the race is by order of enrollment and payment.
5. Determination of the overall winning Team
The winning team is the one which finishes the race after completing the time trials and the 2 daily stages from start to finish in the lowest overall time.
Each team member must stop at checkpoints and handout the timecard, checkpoints are marked with 2 yellow flags.
- Missing a checkpoint(s) will lead to large time penalty(s) set by the organiser.
- Overtaking at or near checkpoints is not allowed.
Riders who leave the racetrack must re-enter at the place where they left the track.
- Riders who leave the race track by more than 200 meters will get a 2 hour time penalty.
- Riders who abandon are given time penalties set by the organiser. They are allowed to start next day.
- Riding against the race direction will lead to Team disqualification
Teams MUST always stay together. Riding more than 2 minutes apart = Warning by Race Director, 2nd Infringement of the rule = 60 minute penalty, 3rd Infringement = Team disqualification.
- The time of the slowest competitor per team counts for the team's valuation.
Riders late at the start must follow the starters instructions. Your "given start time" is used in the race time valuation
- arriving more than 30 min late after the last team leaves = no start allowed & "Team Abandoned this day"
- The minimum team participants is 2 competitors with 2 snowmobiles.
If a snowmobile breaks down or a rider is injured and cannot continue:
2 snowmobile team
- If 2 riders arrive at the finish on one snowmobile – no time penalty
- If one rider arrives alone at the finish = Team disqualified.
- If a rider is left alone in the wilderness = Team disqualified.
- Riders who abandon are allowed to compete the next day.
- To restart the following day together on only one snowmobile is not allowed.
- It is the riders responsibility to recover broken equipment.
3 snowmobile team
- If 3 riders arrive at the finish (2 on one snowmobile, one on another) – no time penalty
- If 3 riders arrive at the finish on one snowmobile – no time penalty
- If 2 riders arrive at the finish on one snowmobile, third rider left safely at a checkpoint or tankpoint or rescue point – no time penalty
- If a rider is left alone in wilderness = Team disqualified.
- Riders who abandon are allowed to compete the next day.
- To restart the following day together on only one snowmobile is not allowed.
- It is the riders responsibility to recover broken equipment.
Time trials:-
- A team that does not start a time trial will receive the penalty of "twice the slowest rider/team competitor qualifying time".
- If a rider of a team hurts himself or destroys his snowmobile at the prologue. Join another team? or become a team of two competitors rather than three? discuss a solution with the Race Director.
- It is the riders responsibility to recover broken equipment.
- For safety reasons, the possession of 2 GSM mobile phones is mandatory
GPS rules:-
- Each Team must have at least 2 functioning GARMIN® GPS. The second GPS must also record during the race but can be carried in a safe place such as a backbag.
- Not carrying a second GPS per team - No start allowed & "Team Abandoned this day"
- Two NOT working GPS devices will lead to a 4 hour penalty and on a second time will lead to Team disqualification.
- Teams that loose or destroy their navigation unit must report to GPS crew.
Speeding over limit - time penalties.
If you drive on roads greater than 10 kilometers over the speed limit you will be given a time penalty.
> 10 kilometers per hour = 5 minute time penalty
> 20 kilometers per hour = 10 minute time penalty
Safety equipment - time penalties
- Controls will be made pre-start and or at start to ensure that riders are carrying ALL rescue equipment requested. Not carrying this safety equipment will result in disqualification!!! Also a not working light at the start will result in disqualification.
6. Protective clothing/helmet, Safety equipment
Each team must carry the following:
2 GSM mobile phones with charged batteries and waterproof packaging
1 aluminium rescue blanket
3 red signal flares (with launching pin)
team size biwak bag
2 lighters
first aid kit
flashlight, plus spare batteries
1 winter jacket
1 pencil
drinking water reservoir of at least 0,5 litre per person
1 penknife
1 spare spark plug per cylinder
tools
GPS spare batteries
A suitable protection helmet is required, as well as suitable protective clothing.
7. Technical terms
Snowmobiles:
Every Ski driven snowmobile type is accepted. All snowmobiles must have a headlight and brakes in function.
Fuel supply (refuel):
- Refuelling is only allowed in areas provided by race organisers on the track.
- During refuelling the engine must be stopped.
- In the refuel-areas there is a strict smoking interdiction!
- Further details on the position and procedure of the refuel stops will be announced at the riders briefings.
Repair, service, accidents:
Service works on the track is only allowed if no other participants are obstructed. The race track has to be secured for following competitors by team members even in the case of an accident.
Navigation technology:
The primary navigation instrument will be the GPS device. The race track will be uploaded to the GPS device by the organising team.
The permanent energy supply of the GPS coming from the vehicle and/or from the batteries during the whole race is the sole responsibility of the participants. Carrying spare batteries is mandatory.
Technical support crews:
No other Snowmobiles or vehicles beside racers, staff, rescue, accredited media, are allowed at any time on the racetrack.
Garmin GPS specifications:
Especially recommended is the use of the models Garmin e-trex with USB connector.

8. Start and race track, generally
The starting grid, the starting list and interval formation will be announced at the riders briefing.
Because of the exposed routing, each participant must treat contacts with competitors (overtaking), carefully and respectfully.
Penalties can start with time penalties and end with Team disqualification.
The penalty depends on the nature of the misdoing and is stated in these regulations or decided by the race organiser.
The organiser has the right to disqualify participants in case of unfair behavior or in case of uncivilized fouls. In case of protests and objections, the arbitrator is the organiser.
Any witnessed events during the race, regarding the competitors, such as evidently injured competitors or because of a technical defect stopped participants, must be announced to the closest race marshal or to the Race Director.
In case of an accident, teams MUST stop and ask if help is needed.
Depending of the difficulty and danger of the race track riders may be asked at a checkpoint or tank point to leave the race track and go to finish/hotel due to being to late too safely reach the finish.
9. Valuation
- The time of the slowest snowmobile in a team is taken into consideration.
- Teams that arrive after the timekeeping team has left the finish must report their arrival to the timekeepers hotel room that will be announced by the GPS timekeeping crew.
- Teams with less then 4 hours rest or sleep need to see the race medical centre to get starting permission.
10. Environment and adequate behavior
- Each participant to the Frejn Snowmobile Rally is at the same time guest and ambassador, he has to be careful not to disturb his surroundings and the environment.
- In the riders camp, the riders are only allowed to drive at walking pace and only necessary drives are to be taken.
- During service work in the riders camp, where fuel or oil could leak, riders must use a gasoline/oil resistant waste container. The competitors must clean up their garbage in services areas and on the track.
- Regulations concerning noise disturbance , open fires etc. are mandatory and should be respected.
11. Responsibility and renunciation to responsibility of the participants
All participants take part in the event on their own responsibility and agree to the regulations. They carry the exclusive civil and penal responsibility for all the damages caused by themselves and/or their snowmobile. If the rider is not the owner of the snowmobile which he drives, he sets everyone, who is involved in the organization of the event free of any claim of the proprietor. The participant, who has suffered an accident or damage, renounces by enrolling, to any right on proceeding or resort over against anyone involved in the organization of the event. We recommend insurance for sportsmen and vehicle.
12. Sound and image rights of the participants
Herewith, all participants offer for an unlimited period of time and against no remuneration, all utilization and personality rights to the organizer, in form of images and sound documents recorded between the 4’th and the 6’th of March. This agreement becomes effective for all participants once they have enrolled.
In the case of withdrawals of the participants until 15’th of February 2010, 80% of the paid sum will be paid back.
In the case of withdrawals of the participants after 15th of February, 50% of the paid sum will be paid back.
In the case of withdrawals of the participants after 30th of February, there will be no refund.
